يناقش البحث دور الحاسوب في المعجم، ويحاول الإجابة عن السؤال إلى أي مدى يؤثر الوسيط الناقل في وضوح المعلومة (الرسالة) المنقولة من صانع المعجم إلى مستخدمه؟ وفي سبيل ذلک يناقش البحث آليات صناعة المعجم بداية من تحديد الهدف والمستخدم، والوسيط الناقل، ثم جمع مداخل المعجم، ومعالجتها صوتيًّا وکتابيًّا خطيًّا وصرفيًّا ودلاليًّا، ويحاول البحث دراسة أثر سمة الورقية على المعجم، وفي المقابل أثر الحاسوبية على المعجم.

This research discusses the role of the computer in the lexicon, and attempts to answer the question of how far the transmitter affects the clarity of the message transferred from the dictionary maker to its user? To do this, the research discusses the mechanisms of the lexicon industry by first defining the target and the user, the transmitting medium, then collecting the lexicon entries and their phonetic, graphical, morphological, and semantic processing. Finally, this research tries to study the impact of the nature of the dictionary (paper, electronic) on the dictionary itself.
