اصبح الغاز الطبيعي موردًا مهمًا من موارد الطاقة الأساسية، وأحد أهم المقومات الأساسية لتحقيق القدرة الشاملة للدولة، ومن ثم تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على الأبعاد الجيوبوليتيکية لغاز شرق البحر المتوسط، حيث تتناول الامتداد الجغرافي لإقليم شرق المتوسط وأهم حقول الغاز المکتشفة في دوله، من أجل إبراز التفاعلات الجيوبوليتيکية بين دول الإقليم، نتيجة للاکتشافات المتتالية الهائلة من الموارد الهيدروکربونية البحرية في دوله. کما تستعرض الدراسة أهم أسباب وفرص التعاون بين دول شرق المتوسط لتحقيق الاستفادة والاستغلال الأمثل لتلک الموارد، وما تحمله من طموحات اقتصادية تحقق لدوله الاستقرار والتنمية. وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى عدد من النتائج أبرزها:
• أدت اکتشافات الغاز في شرق البحر المتوسط إلى صراع سياسي وأمني معقد، يصعب معه إيجاد الحلول للتحديات التي تواجه مستقبل الغاز في منطقة شرق المتوسط.
• لابد أن يتحقق قدر معين من التعاون بين دول شرق المتوسط، لضمان استخراج موارد الغاز البحرية، بطريقة مجدية اقتصاديًا وآمنة سياسيًا لجميع الأطراف.
• لابد أن تنظر دول منطقة شرق المتوسط إلى أبعد من المصالح الاقتصادية والسياسية قصيرة المدى، وذلک من خلال الانخراط في اتفاقيات دائمة تعمل على إزالة أي توتر سياسي من شأنه تعطيل عمليات استخراج الغاز وتصديره.
 
Abstract
Natural gas has become an important source of basic energy resources, and one of the most basic ingredients to achieve the comprehensive capacity of the state, and then this study aims to identify the geopolitical dimensions of the eastern Mediterranean gas, as it deals with the geographical extension of the Eastern Mediterranean region and the most important gas fields discovered in its countries, in order to Highlighting the geopolitical interactions between the countries of the region, as a result of the massive successive discoveries of marine hydrocarbon resources in their countries. The study also reviews the most important reasons and opportunities for cooperation between the countries of the eastern Mediterranean to achieve optimal utilization and exploitation of these resources, and the economic ambitions they bear to achieve stability and development for their countries.
The study concluded a number of results, most notably:
• The gas discoveries in the eastern Mediterranean have led to a complex political and security conflict, with which it is difficult to find solutions to the challenges facing the future of gas in the eastern Mediterranean region.
• A certain amount of cooperation must be achieved between the countries of the eastern Mediterranean, to ensure the extraction of offshore gas resources, in an economically feasible and politically safe manner for all parties.
• The countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region must look beyond short-term economic and political interests, by engaging in permanent agreements that work to remove any political tension that would disrupt gas extraction and export operations.
